Nikon – Z8 Mirrorless Camera with 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 Lens

The Z8 is a compact and lightweight camera that uses the same technology as the Z9, but in a more portable package. It’s the ultimate hybrid camera, and it features the same proven AF, processing, and sensor capabilities as the flagship. Its new body design also makes it ideal for use in handheld applications. The same 45.7MP BSI sensor that was used in the Z9 was featured in the Z8. It offers a variety of features, such as fast readout speeds and impressive clarity. The stacked design helps minimize rolling shutter and the BSI designation helps improve noise levels when shooting at the top end of the ISO range. The combination of the 45.7MP resolution and the full-frame sensor makes the Z8 an ideal choice for those who want to work in detail-oriented photography. It also enables recording videos at resolutions up to 8k.

EXPEED 7 Image Processor:

The EXPEED 7 processing engine is a powerful addition to the sensor, which can perform up to 10x faster than the Z7 II. It features a stacked sensor design that enables fast AF speeds, high burst shooting rates, and a wide range of video performance. When shooting in raw, the continuous shooting rate at 20 frames per second is ideal, while shooting in JPEG at 30 frames per second and in the mode of 19MP files using a DX area, it can shoot at 60 frames per second. It also supports full AF andAE performance when shooting 11MP photos. The ability to buffer over 1,000 photos in a burst allows you to create sequences of images that can be recorded for up to 50 seconds. It can also skip the first shot of each burst to speed up the review process. Making it easier to capture moments with quick snapshot captures is the Pre-Release Capture feature. When activated, burst shooting starts after the shutter has been partially pressed, and the buffer can hold up to a second worth of images before the button is pressed. The electronic shutter allows you to shoot at 1/32,000 sec with a wider aperture. It’s ideal for capturing images in the brightest conditions. The built-in Stacked Sensor design helps minimize rolling shutter distortion while still allowing fast-moving subjects like baseball bats, golf clubs, and tennis rackets to appear unaffected when shooting at 1/32,000 sec. To keep up with fast shooting speeds, the AF calculations are carried out at a rate of 120 frames per second. The High Efficiency RAW format maintains the same image quality as uncompressed files, but with a smaller size. This makes it easier to read and write to the memory card. The HEIF format is a useful alternative to the JPEG, providing a billion more colors for enhanced dynamic range and realism. It also retains the small size of the JPEG while making it compatible with HLG displays. The Motion Blend Retouch feature allows you to create an in-camera composite that shows a series of moving subjects within a single frame. The Long Exposure LCD has a live exposure timer, as well as the ability to dim the device to preserve your vision at night.

Electronic Shutter-Only Design:

The Z8 utilizes a stacked sensor and a fast f/1.8 lens, which eliminates the need for a mechanical shutter. It can record up to 1/32,000 sec., and its built-in electronic shutter eliminates motion distortion to provide an accurate depiction of fast moving objects, such as cars and baseball bats. Even without a mechanical shutter, the device still supports high-speed sync and flash sync. The Z8 can operate silently and does not need a mechanical shutter to function properly. It also has a built-in electronic release sound that can be used to alert users when photos are taken.

Portrait Mode:

The Z8 offers a variety of processing tools that help improve the quality of portraits. These tools allow you to fine-tune the brightness and contrast of your photos while shooting, and they also help you maintain the essential sharpness of your hair and eyes. In addition, you can use skin softening to improve the appearance of your skin and keep it looking fresh. Manual white balance can be used to make adjustments easily.

AF System:

The Z8 utilizes the 493-point phase detection AF system to achieve accurate focusing and fast AF readings. The Z interface’s high-speed communication helps boost the sensor’s speed and enables readings up to 120 frames per second. The Z8 features a dedicated focusing mode that allows users to focus on objects in low light conditions. This feature is useful for shooting in low-light situations and for performing other activities such as concert shooting. In addition, the Backlit AF system allows users to overexpose the sensor’s pixels in order to achieve the best possible focusing accuracy. The Z8 also features 3D Tracking AF, which is a standard feature in DSLRs. This feature pairs with the camera to focus on fast, moving subjects that are perpendicular and parallel to the body. It has three Dynamic-Area AF modes that allow users to capture varying types of moving subjects.

Subject Detection with Deep Learning Technology:

The Z8 uses advanced deep learning technology and inherited algorithms from the Z9. It can recognize various subjects, such as humans and animals. Auto-area AF will automatically detect and track the subjects in the frame, ensuring sharp focus whenever the subject moves across it. Eye-Detection AF, for instance, has been designed to improve its accuracy and recognize eyes in the scene regardless of their size or shape, and can be paired with custom Wide-area AF for various subject sizes and shapes.

Video Capabillities:

The Z8 is capable of recording videos at up to 8K with a variety of frame rates and resolutions. In addition, it can record videos at 30p at full resolution and up to 2 hours and 5 minutes with continuous shooting. Oversampling at 60p in 8K will enhance the detail and sharpness of videos. High-quality frame grabs can also be achieved using the camera with 4K videos, resulting in 33MP or 11MP images. The internal 12-bit Raw recording of up to 8.3K 60p in N-RAW format is included with ProRES RAW HQ. This allows users to get greater color latitude and tone. It also offers post-production flexibility and better dynamic range. The N-RAW format is created by Nikon, and it comes with a small file size. It also allows users to create MP4 proxies for easier transfer and previewing. The N-RAW recording option is suitable for capturing images at up to 8.3K at 60p, 24p, 4.1K, 5.3K, and 3.8K at 120p, with a 2.3x crop. The ProRES RAW recording option is also available at 60p and 4.1K. In addition, internal recording is supported with 10-bit color. 4:2:2 sampling is also available in the H.264 and H.265 codecs. This can be used for various post-production needs. Users can also set up a 10-bit N-Log color profile and a Flat color option for enhanced color grading. In addition, HLG can be utilized to create content that is ready for HDR. The Z8 features a variety of recording tools that can be utilized in productions. One of these is the red REC frame indicator, which can be used to recognize when the device is recording. It also has a dedicated video info display that shows various recording options, such as the frame size, audio settings, bit depth, and the HDMI output. The camera’s top control panel displays various settings, such as focus peaking and zebra stripes. These help users get the most out of their photos. In addition, they can analyze their exposure using a Waveform monitor. In manual mode, users can adjust their ISO to 1/6-stop increments. Users can now assign different AF speeds to the different Fn buttons with the help of the Fast AF-ON feature. Slow shutter speed video is also supported for low-light shooting, and it can be used to create blurred effects or work in extreme conditions. The Z8 is also capable of 24-bit linear sound recording. It can be paired with external microphones via the Tascam CA-XLR2-AN digital adapter.
