Boasting six ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements, this lens enhances light transmission and reduces dispersion, effectively eradicating chromatic aberrations and color fringing across the zoom range for exceptional clarity and color accuracy. Incorporating a single aspherical glass element, it minimizes distortion and coma at wide apertures while enabling a lighter and more compact size, particularly advantageous for super-telephoto zoom lenses.

The lens is equipped with an FLC fluorine coating that proficiently repels dust, water droplets, grease, and dirt, facilitating easy removal even when adhered to the lens surface. This coating withstands frequent lens surface wiping, and its anti-reflective properties contribute to capturing clear images with minimal reflections.

Autofocus and Vibration Reduction

Featuring an STM stepping motor, this lens ensures fast, accurate, smooth, and quiet autofocus, minimizing wobbling. The drive system delivers impressive autofocus performance suitable for both stills and video applications.

The A/M mode, signifying Auto-Priority Manual Mode, facilitates an effortless transition from autofocus to manual during AF operation. The internal focusing lens design maintains a consistent size during zoom and autofocus, contributing to a compact form factor capable of close focusing distances.

With a minimum focusing distance of 4.3′ and a 0.25x maximum magnification at the 180mm zoom position, the lens excels at capturing close-up details and subjects. Additionally, the built-in optical Vibration Reduction (VR) system enhances image stability by compensating for camera shake. This in-lens technology provides stabilization equivalent to a shutter speed 5.5 stops faster, effectively reducing camera blur when panning to track fast-moving subjects.

The lens boasts a durable, weather-sealed barrel and a front fluorine coating, making it suitable for use in challenging conditions.

For added stability during monopod or tripod shooting, a rotating tripod collar is incorporated. Furthermore, the lens is compatible with Nikon Z-series teleconverters, allowing an extension of the effective focal length to 840mm with the 1.4x teleconverter and up to 1200mm with the 2x teleconverter.
